How the Oil & Gas Industry Can Use Modular Industrial Buildings
The oil & gas industry is big business in Canada. Alberta's oil production makes up about 80% of Canada’s total oil production. Plus the oil and gas industry is active in 12 out of the 13 provinces and territories.
As of 2022, the industry produces approximately 5.57 million barrels a day and supports over 500,000 jobs, plus it contributes 6.5% to Canada’s GDP. And oil and gas projects in Canada are growing.
With this growth, oil and gas companies need to prepare for expansion and one of the more cost-effective ways to do that is by using modular industrial buildings on their job sites. We’ll explore the different BOXX products companies can use and how BOXX sets itself apart from its competitors.
How Can Modular Be Used?
Modular buildings can be used in several different capacities in oil and gas projects in Canada. They can serve as administrative offices or as storage for equipment.
For example, an oil and gas customer came to BOXX needing a multi-functional space for a large team of engineers, contractors, consultants, inspectors, and administrators. Their complex included office spaces, lunchrooms, first aid buildings, and lavatories.
The project was over 36,000 square feet and was completed in 240 days.
Here are some of the ways BOXX products can be used on an oilfield.
Mobile Offices
Mobile offices are flexible solutions if you need temporary space at your job site. They’re outfitted with a frame and wheels so you can transport them not only around your site but you can also take them to different oil fields.
You can use mobile offices as work or conference spaces for administrative, engineering, and mechanical teams, or they can be used as break areas for your on-site crews. BOXX also offers several office furniture packages so you can upgrade your space and make sure it’s ready to use as soon as installation is complete.
Blast Resistant Buildings
Sometimes oil and gas aren’t the most stable substances in the world, so having a building that can withstand industrial explosions is a good idea. Our blast-resistant buildings look like any of our other buildings, but they’re built with a steel shell that can not only take the force of an explosion but resist different weather conditions, like extreme cold and snow.
These buildings can be used as administrative offices to help protect employees from any potential harm or to protect sensitive documents or equipment.
SmartSpace
Like most businesses, oil and gas fields have specialized needs and sometimes our standard buildings don't quite work. SmartSpace was created as a cost-effective modular solution with a smaller footprint. They can be stacked to create prefab office buildings even if you are short on available ground space.
Container Offices
All businesses need storage. Container offices give companies the flexibility to have both office spaces and storage areas, depending on what they need at the time. They’re made of solid steel with steel screens over the windows and come with steel lock boxes so you can add your own locks.
Storage Containers
If you don’t need any office space, you can also buy a plain storage container. Made with the same materials as a container office, these are a more utilitarian design and are strictly for storage. You also have an option to add bracket-mounted shelving.
Washrooms & Lavatories
There are some essentials that you need on every oilfield—one of those is a bathroom. Our washroom buildings are built to code locally in Canada and can be delivered with built-in or external water and waste tanks if on-site services are not available. They also come with male and female sides, flushable toilets, urinals, and sinks.
We also can provide ramps, stairs, and landings to help make them more accessible. Once everything is installed at your location, they’re ready for use.
What Sets BOXX Apart from Its Competitors
We’re passionate about modular buildings. From the materials and construction to how modular can work for our customers, that is what drives us.
We make sure that we use high-quality products so we can deliver a modular building that’s not only long-lasting but also functions your for business.
In addition to quality, we also make sure we’re being as environmentally friendly as we can be. We follow green building practices so we can produce less waste, which is better for the environment. We also use green building materials when we can.
Since most people see prefab buildings at construction sites, they get a reputation for being temporary and flimsy, which isn’t the case. We design and build our modular industrial buildings to the same Canadian building codes that traditional construction uses. Plus, each section gets structural inspections throughout our building process and we perform additional inspections when we start assembly at your job site.
