Gibson Energy is a Canadian-based liquids infrastructure company headquartered in Calgary, Alberta.
With nearly 14 million barrels of storage, and over 500 km of crude pipelines, Gibson Energy touches 1 in every 4 barrels produced in Western Canada.
When they needed a turnkey, blast-resistant structure, Gibson turned to BOXX Modular for their specific space needs. The structure would be used in an area next to the flare knock-out drum at their energy project site, and would need to withstand exposure to severe elements. Specifically, Gibson needed their structure to have a fire-resistance rating of at least 45 minutes and be non-combustible, while also featuring a specialized room to allow control over the project's electronic systems and servers. Gibson Energy required this solution to be ready to deploy as soon as site preparation was complete.
Quick Facts
Industry: Energy Location: Hardisty, AB Building Use: Blast-resistant building Size of Project: 1,144 sq. ft. Completion time: 98 days
BOXX Modular designed end precisely engineered a totally custom, one-of-a-kind structural steel modular building with a series of proprietary blast-resistant steel panels. Built in a controlled factory environment while site preparation occurred, this robust structure was ready for work the moment Gibson Energy needed it. BOXX Modular paid considerable attention to its client’s specifications, delivering a finished, non-combustible product that would withstand at least 45 minutes of fire exposure.
BOXX Modular took great care to install specific electrical, control and fire alarm components during manufacturing. A Distributed Control System (DCS) Engineering Room with a secured and temperature-controlled server room allows Gibson Energy to maintain the sensitive electronic systems and servers needed to control the site. Additionally, the unique one-module building envelope eliminated all excess transportation materials, which are normally thrown away once the building arrives at site and is ready for install, making this building more sustainable and fully turnkey.
